Chuan-Pu Lee, known to her friends as "C.P. Lee" was a strong advocate for the graduate students of Wayne State University. Constantly encouraging students, she reminded them that diligence and determination were the only limits to achieving their success. Dr. Lee had generously offered pre- and post-doctoral travel awards to aid the cost of national and international conferences.

Before her passing on July 20, 2016, Dr. Lee worked with the GSRPD committee to set up a cash prize endowment for exceptional presentations each year at the GSRPD. Her life and memory will continue to serve graduate students through this event, formally entitled Chuan-Pu Lee, Ph.D. Endowed Graduate Student Research Presentation Day.
